I am 63 and being diagnosed with ALL+Ph in May 2005 came as a great shock after having a routine Blood Test taken. The first few weeks I was in complete denial, not believing this was happening to me as I felt so well until my chemo and treatment started.
Living on the Gold Coast I was sent to R.B.W.H. in Brisbane where I was put on a Clinical Trial called "ALL2 (LALA) Protocol. in conjunction with the drug Glivec.
Total duration of therapy being 30 months. It has now been 18 months since being diagnosed.
I have had my good and bad times in this period, after the initial induction therapy I suffered a Brain Haemorage and some infections which kept me in hospital for a few weeks. Other than that and the usual Nausea that goes along with the chemo I have been doing well. The support given by my wonderful family and the Leukaemia Foundation who have helped enormously with accommodation close to the hospital has been fantastic.
I am now on maintenance therapy and have chemo every 8 weeks along with my daily dose of Glivec.
Fingers crossed everything continues going well.
